After struggling through qualifying, Red Bull Yamaha's Noriyuki Haga found enough speed to produce the fourth fastest time during the race - while challenging the likes of Biaggi and McCoy for a podium finish.

It was a valuable experience for the MotoGP 500 rookie, but it eventually came to an end when he lost the front of the #41 Yamaha while entering the Esses on the tenth lap, he was lying in an impressive third at the time.
