Extensive global television coverage of the MotoGP World Championship continued in 2002, with an average of 320 million viewers tuning in to coverage of each Grand Prix, including a live audience average of 130 million people across 187 countries.

The season produced another increase in the annual total of broadcast hours, with audiences in 208 countries clocking up 3,420 hours of viewing, a rise of 174 hours on the previous year.

Live or same day delayed transmissions of each Grand Prix were emitted through 43 broadcasters, including major networks such as Ten and Fox (Australia), NHK and NTV (Japan), France TV (France), Channel 5 (Great Britain), MDR (Germany), Mediaset (Italy), TVE (Spain), Globo (Brazil), M-Net (South Africa), Speedvision (USA and Canada) and Center TV (Russia).

Pan-continental coverage was once again offered across Europe (Eurosport), Asia (ESPN-Star), Africa (SuperSport) and Latin America (ESPN-Latinamerica and ESPN-2), with footage fed to some 223 million homes across the globe via cable or satellite.

This extensive global coverage of the 2002 MotoGP World Championship contributed to a total number of television viewers that hit a massive 5,130 million for the year.
