His first two oval races were at the season-opening Bud Shootout in Daytona and the September Cup event at California Speedway in Fontana. He finished 10th in Daytona and 30th in Fontana.

Said also competed in the June road race at the Infineon Raceway. where he posted a sixth-place result. He was scheduled to drive the USG Durock Chevy in the August road race at Watkins Glen, but did not make the starting field after rain forced NASCAR to cancel the qualifying session and set the line-up based on car owner's points.

In each of the above races, Said was entered under the MB2 Motorsports banner.

"Every time I get to drive in a Cup race I get pumped because this is where I want to be," offered Said. "It was a major disappointment not to be part of the Watkins Glen race and I am thankful to both USG and MB2 for having another opportunity to compete against the best drivers in the world."

One of Said's 12 career NASCAR Cup races was at the 1999 Homestead event when he drove an Ernie Irvan-owned car. He qualified 27th and finished 34th.

"The track has been reconfigured since then and I am looking forward to going there and testing with (MB2 teammate) Joe Nemechek," offered Said.

Said and Nemechek will test in Homestead Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
