Nasr leads as Alonso gets first night laps at Daytona

Ex-Formula 1 driver Felipe Nasr has headed up the timesheet on the second day of the Roar before the 24 pre-Daytona test as Fernando Alonso enjoyed his first night driving laps.

Nasr shot to the top of the times in the #31 Action Express Cadillac DPi in the second of the three sessions on Saturday with a 1m 36.973s while also setting the best lap of the third session run under the floodlights. The former Sauber F1 driver locked out a Cadillac top four with IndyCar driver Ryan Hunter-Reay going second quickest with a 1m 37.056s set in the second session.

With Eddie Cheever III in the #90 Spirit of Daytona Cadillac and Christian Fittipaldi in the #5 Action Express Cadillac rounding out a top four lockout, Alex Brundle in the JOTA-run #78 Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca led the rest of the field.

Further down the order two-time F1 world champion Alonso produced 13 laps in the night session having set the team’s fastest lap of the day in the second session of 1m 38.072s – over a second off of the top time – in the #23 United Autosports Ligier.

Sebastien Bourdais set the standard to beat in the GT Le Mans field for Chip Ganassi Ford with a 1m 43.798s as Matteo Cairoli went fastest in the GT Daytona class for the Manthey Racing Porsche squad.
