Cyprus to replace China in 2000 WRC.

The FIA today announced that the Cyprus Rally would be added to the 2000 World Rally Championship schedule as a replacement for the cancelled event in China.

The China Rally was dropped from the calendar in April, having failed to find a new sponsor to take over from British American Tobacco. The national government could not be persuaded to bale the event out, and rally organisers decided that they had no alternative but to withdraw from the schedule.

A fax vote from members of the World Motor Sport Council confirmed the replacement's inclusion as round ten of the series. The Cyprus Rally will take place between 7-10 September 2000.
