Rally Australia proves big business for WA.

Telstra Rally Australia 2000 is expected to generate more than $20 million in economic impact for the benefit of all West Australians.

The event, which hits Langley Park on 9 November also provides significant business for local companies, and executive director of Telstra Rally Australia, Don McGrath, said many small businesses in WA were involved in all aspects of the event.

"From the building of the Langley Park track to catering for thousands of corporate hospitality clients, WA businesses have a close and valuable association with Telstra Rally Australia," he said.

Managing Director of AKA Stage and Seating, Ron Eley said Telstra Rally Australia was the jewel in their business crown. The WA owned company supplies temporary grandstands to accommodate 7500 people for Telstra Rally Australia.

"Telstra Rally Australia is an integral part of our business as it's the biggest annual event in Perth," said Eley, "Our involvement in this event helped us win several contracts at the Sydney 2000 Olympics."

Cockburn Wreckair's involvement with Telstra Rally Australia has spanned 12 years. The company supplies portable buildings including offices, accommodation and toilets. Cockburn Wreckair also meets most of the power requirements at Langley Park as well as the lighting needs at all event locations.

"Telstra Rally Australia is a great marketing exercise for us," said event manager Colin Quinn, "Cockburn Wreckair hosts a corporate hospitality villa which is very successful from a business perspective. From a personal point of view, we also love to see WA marketed to the world and we love to see WA prove it can be the best."

WA owned Reece's Hire and Structure Pty Ltd is contracted to supply marquees and tents covering some 9000 square metres. The company also provides more than 2000 chairs and 1000 tables for the event. Managing director Johnathon Sandford said Telstra Rally Australia was vitally important for his business and for the state.

"This is a world class event and we're proud to be associated with it," he said, "Telstra Rally Australia also gives us an opportunity to showcase Reece's Hire and Structures to future clients through our corporate hospitality villa.".

Telstra Rally Australia is managed by EventsCorp and the Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS). EventsCorp is the State Government's major events agency, established in 1986 to develop, attract, support and, where appropriate, manage events which are capable of generating substantial visitor expenditure and which can cost-effectively market Western Australia to a national and international audience.
