The 41-year-old is reportedly progressing well, although he still feels drowsy after being treated for the discomfort of his injuries. It is expected he will remain in hospital for the next couple of days.

Grataloup was injured when Delecour's factory Ford Focus left the road and hit a tree in the Wellington Dam stage. The French crew was attempting to make up for time lost when the team asked them to take a time penalty to help team leader Colin McRae overcome his own setback on Friday night.

Grataloup is the second high-profile co-driver on as many events to be hospitalised following a crash. Tommi Makinen's partner, Risto Mannisenmaki, was airlifted to a French institution after the pair overturned and narrowly avoided plunging over a cliff on the Tour de Corse two weeks ago.
