MG ZR on Spanish rally stage.

The Rallye Catalunya is the second outing for the GSE-built MG ZR rally car of Gwyndaf Evans and Chris Patterson. The event started this morning in a hot and sunny Spain, and immediately hit problems as the first stage was cancelled due to the large numbers of spectators near the start.

The MG and the other Junior World Rally Championship cars finally got to show what they could do on special stage two, the 27.65km long Pratdip stage, Gwyndaf emerging 18th quickest off the JWRC cars after having problems on the stage.

The MG and the other Junior World Rally Championship cars finally got to show what they could do on special stage two, the 27.65km long Pratdip stage, Gwyndaf emerging 18th quickest off the JWRC cars after having problems on the stage.

"The car doesn't seem too bad," explained the Welshman, "but 10km into the stage we lost the brakes, and had to drive for eight or nine kilometres without any - all on very twisty roads. They came back a little in the last 10km, but we lost quite a bit of time. We're still running and learning all the time, which is what we came here for."

"The stages were slippery," added co-driver Chris. "We were happy to finish the stage as a good few went off."

The MG ZR has now passed through the service point at the end of Pratdip, and left for stage three. Today's opening leg of the rally consists of three stages, the cars running each twice.
