WRC moves closer to new F1 style points system.

The FIA World Rally Championship looks set to copy Formula One, and introduce the same revised points system in 2003.

From next year then points could be awarded to the top eight finishers, with 10 points for a win, 8 for second, 6 for third, 5 for fourth, 4 for fifth and so on down to 1 for eighth place.

The proposal although agreed by the Rallies Commission, still needs final approval from the World Motor Sport Council, according to reports by BBC Sport Online.

The new 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 arrangement, if adopted next year then, would replace the current 10-6-4-3-2-1 system.

Like in F1, it will be good news for those teams that sometimes struggle to break into the top six, namely, going on the 2002 results, Skoda, Hyundai and Mitsubishi.
