Citroen Sport new boy Colin McRae is the most successful rally driver, in terms of wins in the history of the World Rally Championship. The Scot loves rallying, loves motor sport and, more than that, just loves speed.

His new DVD/Video biography, Pedal to the metal is the perfect example of his love for speed.

"It deals with my whole career right from the start," explains McRae speaking to Crash.net, before adding, "from the motor cycling right through to the world championship and then the last three years with Ford."

It also deals with the nickname 'Colin McCrash' and for those that fear it might upset the World Rally star fear not. Indeed one gets the impression McRae rather likes it.

Was it an unfair label? "I don't think so, no," explains the Scot. "It was a fact that I did crash a few cars on the way through to the top, but you know, I think that is obviously one of the things that has made my career, a bit more exciting than most of the other guys. So it's certainly not a negative point."

But of all the moments that stand out one springs to mind straight away... "The high was certainly winning the World Rally Championship [in 1995]. There's no question about that," comments CM.

And as for the lows... "The lows, there is quite a lot of them and it is very difficult to pick one out in particular, but it [rallying] is that kind of sport, in that the highs are very high and the lows are very low. There never ever seems to be a happy medium. So definitely the high is the world championship," concludes Colin.

With McRae now heading to Citroen in 2003 the Scot is eager to win the championship again. How long will he continue rallying though? What are his plans for the future?

"I wouldn't think I'd be rallying into my forties," reveals McRae. "I'd certainly like to continue driving in motor sport, but there are so many other forms of motor sport that I would love to have a go at."

He then adds, seemingly contradicting himself: "As far as driving professionally in the World Rally Championship I can't even answer that, because you know it's a question of being competitive, if you are still in the position to win and enjoy it then there is no reason to stop..."

If you want to know all about McRae's career, then Pedal to the metal will make the perfect Xmas present. It's available in all good high street stores now - priced at: ?14.99 (VHS) and ?17.99 (DVD) [UK prices].
