MG finnishes well in Arctic Rally.

TV F1 pundit Tony Jardine and co-driver Kevin Piper, head of Anglia TV, overcame the extreme conditions and -14 degree temperatures in their MG ZR to complete the testing 13 stage/1000km Arctic Lapland Rally in Northern Finland.

Jardine, driving the same MG ZR 160 GpN car that won its class in the 2003 Wales Rally GB, kept his head as many top Scandinavian drivers crashed out of the two day event in the frozen wastes of the Arctic Circle and brought the car home to a splendid 37th overall from a field of 81 starters.

Tony Jardine said: "This is the sixth time I've competed in the Arctic Lapland Rally and I've never known such treacherous and testing conditions. We were passing wrecked cars on just about every stage. It was a real battle for survival and a great result for us. We were relieved as much as anything to finish."

The Sportinglife.com MG ZR duo were the only British team in the whole field and were ably supported by the MG Sport& Racing service crew of Dan Surridge, Phil Smith and Mitch Stuart who had trailered the little MG by road some 2000 miles over four days prior to the event-and back again afterwards.

MG Sport & Racing Team Manager Don Kettleborough commented: "The journey to and from the event was probably as much an adventure as the rally itself. To achieve such a result in such bad conditions was a real team effort."
