Valentino Rossi added his name to the list of motorsport stars lamenting the loss of 1995 world rally championship Colin McRae at the weekend, dedicating his victory in the MotoGP race at Estoril to the Scot.

Rossi knew McRae from his occasional forays into the world of rallying, and was a confirmed fan of the Scot, who perished when his helicopter came down close to the family home in Lanarkshire.

"Colin is one of my idols from when I was very young and it's because of him that I have my passion for rally," Rossi said. "It's a very sad day for motorsport and I am glad that I could win for him today."
