The Richard Burns Tribute Bike has been causing a stir at the Goodwood Revival this weekend drawing huge crowds of motorsport fans to the Richard Burns Foundation area at the annual historic motor race meeting.
Created by Midlands-based Ironside Choppers, the eye-catching chopper, decked out in Burns' famous blue and yellow Subaru livery, has been donated to the Richard Burns Foundation by the specialist manufacturers in order to raise funds for the charity.
Details of his long and successful rallying career have been incorporated into the design of the bike, which also has an image of the driver emblazoned on the fuel tank. Fans have been flocking to take a look at the bike and find out more about the charity.
The team from Ironside Choppers - Simon Turley, Andrew Turley, David Turley and Jem Doward - have been on hand to talk to members of the public about how the project came about, while the bike has been a popular photo opportunity for many visitors to the annual vintage motorsport event.
After being autographed by many luminaries from the world of motorsport over the weekend, it will be auctioned off later this year with proceeds from the sale going straight to the charity.
"It has taken two years from the initial concept for the tribute bike to get it to this point," said Simon Turley, founder of Ironside Choppers. "Over 100 hours of work went into getting the bike finished. We were still working on it late on Wednesday night before leaving for Goodwood at 4am on Thursday. It has been a very special project for us and I hope that it will raise a lot of money for the Richard Burns Foundation."
"We have been bowled over by the generosity of the guys from Ironside Choppers," added Peter Martin, Richard Burns Foundation administrator. "The Richard Burns Tribute Bike has helped raise awareness of the charity by drawing huge crowds throughout the weekend and we are very grateful for their commitment to the Richard Burns Foundation going forward."
Ironside Choppers meanwhile have made a generous long-term commitment to the Richard Burns Foundation donating 10 per cent of their profits from the future sale of any bikes.
