Wales Rally GB will return to the world famous Walters Arena Motorsport Complex this year, it has been confirmed.

The Walters Arena Motorsport Complex was last used for the WRC event back in 2009 and this year it will host the qualifying stage on Wednesday September 12 and two competitive stages on Sunday September 16, including the final Power Stage where crucial extra points will be on offer which could decide the event's winner.

Competitors in Wales Rally GB's National Rally will also compete on the stage on the Sunday. Spectators at all runs through the stage will benefit from live commentary over a PA system.

"Everyone is very excited by the return to Walters Arena for the 2012 Wales Rally GB," said Andrew Coe, chief executive of International Motor Sports which organises Wales Rally GB. "The three Likes Land Rover at Walters Arena stages will provide spectators with the chance to enjoy the fast-paced thrill of international motorsport in a dedicated 1,600 acre complex, while competitors will experience a challenging mix of gravel and forest tracks.

"The venue was recently home to its first complete national rally and we're looking forward to taking advantage of the excellent facilities on site."

The Walters Arena Motorsport Complex is owned and operated by plant hire and civil engineering business, The Walters Group. The site hosts a variety of activities throughout the year, including manufacturer testing and driver training, as well as accommodating the BMW Off Road School attended by Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman before their worldwide adventures.

In the three years since the venue was last used for Wales Rally GB, Walters Arena has undergone a series of infrastructure investments and is being transformed into an Eco Park, featuring thirteen wind turbines and miles of access roads, which are now available for rallying.

The Walters Group founder and chairman Dave Walters added: "It is great to have the World Rally Championship and Wales Rally GB back at Walters Arena, helping to showcase the venue and the strong Welsh heritage within the motorsport industry to spectators around the world. As one of Wales' most successful family-owned businesses, The Walters Group is committed to supporting the Welsh economy through our motorsport and wider business activities.

"We're delighted that Wales Rally GB has recognised that commitment and returned to the Walters Arena Motorsport Complex for 2012."

Wales Rally GB will be held from September 13-16 this year, the tenth round in the 2012 FIA World Rally Championship.
