Andreas Mikkelsen has signed a multiple-year contract extension with Volkswagen Motorsport in the World Rally Championship.

The Norwegian, who turns 26-years-old today, currently sits third in the drivers' championship having secured four podium finishes in the opening six rounds. Mikkelsen will continue with co-driver Ola Floene in the Volkswagen Polo R machine and says he's delighted to secure the contract as he continues to push for his maiden WRC victory.

"It is a great feeling to know that the team is happy with me and my performance, and that they want to continue working with me," Mikkelsen said. "I am thankful for this opportunity to continue to develop in this great team. It confirms that we are on the right track and gives us an extra boost for the future."

Mikkelsen claimed the Intercontinental Rally Challenge title in 2011 and 2012 for Skoda before switching to the factory outfit in 2013.

Last season the Norwegian finished third in the WRC championship and his VW director Jost Capito says he's witnessed a remarkable improvement since he joined the premier squad.

"We have enjoyed a lot of success together in the last two years, and this season, and are confident that it is only a matter of time until Andreas and Ola claim their first win," Capito said. "We are impressed by Andreas' talent and the analytical and tactical way he goes about things."
