The fifth round of the Corona Extra Superbike World Championship at Silverstone got off to a smashing start with a four rider pile up at Copse Corner.
The incident was triggered when a rider, possibly Fabien Foret on the Alstare Corona Extra Suzuki, went in too late on the brakes. Max Neukirchner who was further down the pack said, "It look like a Suzuki was too late on the brakes and crashed. For me it was good as I made a lot of positions."

The fallers were Fabien Foret, his team-mate and reigning World Champion Troy Corser, PSG-1 Kawasaki's Fonsi Nieto and Klaffi Honda's Alex Barros who ended up leaping over his burning Honda as it came hurtling towards him.
Corser is unsure what happened as he explains, "I really don't know what happened. I think someone from behind came in a little bit too fast. I basically got hit from behind and I went into Barros then and knocked him off and down we went. I'm not really sure who it was, somebody from behind for sure."
Barros wasn't impressed with another turn one, multiple rider crash, "Riders need to be conscious they can hurt someone and hurt himself. You can do crazy things for you, it is your problem but crazy things that involve other people is not good," he concluded.
The Brazilian feels that penalties should be introduced similar to Moto GP to warn riders off "crazy moves" that could endanger other riders.
