Lowes escapes major injury in Corkscrew fall

Alex Lowes says he is 'disappointed' to come away with relatively little to show for at Laguna Seca after a bruising weekend that involved two large crashes on race day.

Starting down in 11th place, Lowes was already facing a tough ask coming into the first race after a high-speed crash brought on by brake problems in warm-up left him bruised and battered.

Despite this and the necessary rebuild from his Voltcom Crescent Suzuki team, Lowes made it to the grid for the opening race, going on to finish in a solid eighth place.

Eager for better in race two, Lowes's race would come to an abrupt conclusion on lap ten when he misjudged an attempt to pass Loris Baz into the Corkscrew, the youngster flipped over his bend and falling end-over-end down the steep bend.

Aggravating the ankle injury he has been carrying since he broke it at Phillip Island, Lowes is now looking forward to the summer break to relax and recuperate.

"It's been a difficult, painful day and I'm disappointed with its conclusion," he said. "I got a good feeling and understanding with the GSX-R today and my team have done a great job this weekend so it's a shame we couldn't come away with more.

"I'm looking forward to the summer break it will give me the time to recover and continue my training so we can come back strong and ready to fight in Jerez."
