Results from Race 1 at the 2026 Hungarian WorldSBK from Balaton Park.
It was a 14th consecutive win for Nicolo Bulega in Race 1 at Hungary, a new record in WorldSBK. The Italian led from lights to flag once again for his 10th win from 10 races this season.
Iker Lecuona was second. He qualified fifth but started eighth after picking up a three-place grid penalty for impeding Sam Lowes in Superpole. Lecuona was methodical in his route through the pack and took two seconds out of Bulega in the last 15 laps after he got into second place.
Miguel Oliveira completed the podium, beating Yari Montella who had run in third for the opening part of the race. Montella had been behind Alberto Surra, who was second from lap one despite starting on the third row.
Surra dropped to eighth in the end as he ran out of grip in the second half of the race, but it was the first time the Italian had run at the front of a race in WorldSBK.
Behind Montella, Alvaro Bautista's traditional late race pace brought him to fifth, passing Alex Lowes on the penultimate lap, the Bimota rider coming from 10th on the grid to finish sixth.
Andrea Locatelli was comfortably the best Yamaha rider in Race 1 in seventh, although Xavi Vierge rode strongly to come from the fifth row on the grid to finish 10th, behind Sam Lowes.
Lowes was one of the riders to benefit from Lecuona's penalty and started sixth, but he jumped the start and picked up two long lap penalties for that. He dropped to 17th after he took them, but battled through well to get back to the top-10.
Lorenzo Baldassarri was the only rider to not finish the race, the Italian crashing in the opening stages at the fast turn eight. He was taken to the medical centre after the crash and was diagnosed with contusions in his right elbow and knee, but declared fit.
