Catherine Green became the first female rider to win a British Championship race with victory in Monday's Cadwell Park Monster Energy Motostar Championship race.

Green won by a massive eleven seconds in the wet race, having broken away from a seven-rider fight for second.

Green said: "After the first lap I couldn't believe the gap; I thought the team had either got the board wrong or someone had made a mistake behind me to have given me that much of an advantage.

"I was shocked to have been leading by that gap and then I kept telling myself just to keep pushing.

"The crew kept gesturing to me over the wall to slow down, but I couldn't as I thought it might ruin my concentration.

"My target for this season was to be on the podium, but I didn't expect a win.

"It has given me even more confidence now which is a really awesome feeling as the next round of the championship is my home round at Donington Park."

Green is now fourth in the championship, which is led by Luke Hedger, with four rounds to go.
