Haslam on pole after incident packed qualifying.

The Airwaves Ducati riders made their presence felt at Cadwell Park for the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, with Leon Haslam taking pole position and his team-mate, Gregorio Lavilla, taking third.

Sandwiched between the two Ducatis was the Virgin Mobile Samsung Yamaha of Tommy Hill, who crashed out at Charles In during second qualifying, however he managed to hold his position. The final place on the front row went to the hard charging Karl Harris, who was getting some serious air time over the famous mountain section at Cadwell.

The black HM Plant Hondas didn't qualify as well as would have been expected, with Michael Rutter in seventh and his team-mate, Ryuichi Kiyonari in eleventh. Rutter is riding with an upper arm injury which he sustained during his fall at Silverstone. Kiyonari has simply been having 'difficulties', as the Honda spokes person put it, he doesn't seem to have got his machine set up how he wants it for this difficult circuit.

A good start is paramount at Cadwell as it is a difficult circuit to pass on so it will be interesting to see how well the HM Plant Hondas play catch up. Both Rutter and Kiyonari cannot allow Lavilla to escape as the championship points are very close. Lavilla is just thirty-points shy of Rutter and only four away from Kiyo - the race outcome could have a huge impact on the championship.

The Rizla Suzukis of James Haydon and John Reynolds were split by the privateer Suzuki of James Buckingham, with Haydon in eight, Buckingham tenth and current British Superbike Champ, John Reynolds, in twelfth.

Another privateer who didn't have the same luck as Buckingham was Liverpool's Steve Brogan, who missed first qualifying due to an engine failure. However Danny Beaumont's team were good enough to lend him a spare engine and he was able to qualify in twenty eighth. He was struggling with the new engines characteristics, which in turn needed changes to the bike's suspension.

The session was red flagged twice - the first time by Tristan Palmer crashing at the hairpin, where his tank came off and spilt fuel on the track. The second red flag appeared when Dennis Hobbs crashed at the chicane and needed medical attention, apparently he is ok but well beaten up.

Chris Martin had a spectacular off on the Mountain, when he landed awkwardly and had the bike spit him off on to the grass - thankfully he walked away. Another faller was current championship leader Michael Rutter, who slipped off at Charlies Out, however he managed to restart and get back to the pits for his spare machine.
