Leon Haslam has carried on his form from a double win at Snetteron by topping the opening free practice session for JG Speedfit Kawasaki at Knockhill.

The newly-resurfaced Scottish circuit is set to host lap record pace this weekend with the added help of dry and sunny conditions and Haslam duly demonstrated the faster speed with his FP1 timesheet-topper of 47.674s to pull out over one-tenth of a second on Be Wiser Ducati’s Glenn Irwin.

Irwin, who has just signed a deal for 2019 to stay at the PBM-run squad, had led for large parts of the opening session before being displaced by Haslam but held on to second place ahead of Buildbase Suzuki’s Bradley Ray who is looking to bounce back from a tough Snetterton round.

Michael Laverty impressed on the Tyco BMW in fourth ahead of Dan Linfoot on the Honda, making it five different manufacturers at the front, with Jake Dixon in sixth on the RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki to see the top six split by less than three-tenths.

Danny Buchan continued his strong run from Snetterton by ending FP1 seventh for FS-3 Racing Kawasaki ahead of Richard Cooper on the Buildbase Suzuki as Christian Iddon (Tyco BMW) and Luke Mossey (JG Speedfit Kawasaki) rounded out the top ten.
