Leon Haslam has cemented his lead in the Bennetts British Superbike championship ahead of the Showdown with victory in a dramatic race two which saw him pick up a penalty before both Tarran Mackenzie and Jake Dixon crashed out in separate incidents on the final lap.

Haslam’s 11th BSB win of the year capped a hectic second race of the Silverstone Showdown decider triple-header with Bradley Ray booking his place in the top six title fight despite dropping down the order after being barged wide by Haslam midway through the race.

The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider was penalised for the incident and forced to drop one position with the penalty confirmed on lap 22. Having initially not seen the penalty board, Haslam eventually served his penalty on lap 27 to set-up a frantic finish.

With Haslam, RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki’s Jake Dixon and McAMS Yamaha duo Mackenzie and Josh Brookes all battling in the lead group in the closing stages, both Mackenzie and Dixon crashed out at Brooklands on the final lap in separate incidents.

It is suspected the pair both slipped off on oil dropped on track, with Peter Hickman suffering a mechanical failure at the same part of the circuit two laps earlier, which saw Brookes promoted to second place behind Haslam and Be Wiser Ducati’s Glenn Irwin gifted third place.

Despite dropping to 14th place following his clash with Haslam, Ray was still able to secure his BSB Showdown spot with Danny Buchan, the nearest challenger outside the top six places, only finishing 12th for FS-3 Racing Kawasaki.

In an incident-packed race Jason O’Halloran grabbed fourth place for Honda but crossed the line with a puncture before crashing just after crossing the finish line.

Christian Iddon kept his BSB Showdown hopes alive for Tyco BMW in fifth place, riding with a broken collarbone with Moto Rapido Ducati’s Tommy Bridewell taking sixth place.

With a promoted order Gino Rea clinched his best result in BSB with seventh place for OMG Suzuki ahead of Luke Mossey (JG Speedfit Kawasaki) and Andrew Irwin (Be Wiser Ducati).

Richard Cooper claimed 10th place for Buildbase Suzuki ahead of Buchan with James Ellison in 13th for Anvil Hire Yamaha. Ray kept ahead of Mason Law on the Team WD-40 Kawasaki who rounded out the points places.
