Josh Brookes has defended against a final-lap Scott Redding attack to win the second race of the Bennetts British Superbike title decider to keep his championship hopes alive for the last race of the season.

After Redding recovered from a typically poor start, having initially dropped back to eighth place before clawing his way on to the back of Brookes and Tommy Bridewell, the ex-MotoGP rider made his move with three laps to go.

Redding ducked under the inside of Bridewell at Paddock Hill Bend at the start of Lap 18 to take second place and attempted to repeat the move on Brookes for the lead at the start of the final lap. But the 2015 BSB champion dived back underneath his Be Wiser Ducati team-mate at Druids to regain the lead.

The Australian defended hard for the rest of the final lap to claim victory ahead of Redding by 0.119s at the finish line.

The result sees Brookes trim Redding’s BSB championship lead to 14 points ahead of the final race of the season later today.

With Bridewell having to settle for third place he duly secures third place in the BSB championship standings for Oxford Racing Ducati.

Tarran Mackenzie acted as the best of the rest in fourth place for McAMS Yamaha, over seven seconds behind the leaders, having got the better of Christian Iddon on the Tyco BMW.

Danny Buchan claimed seventh place for FS-3 Racing Kawasaki ahead of Jason O’Halloran on the McAMS Yamaha with Peter Hickman in eighth place for Smiths Racing BMW.
