Thompson to take on the World with Alfa?

British Touring Car stalwart James Thompson is set to launch an attack on the 2005 World Touring Car Championship with Alfa Romeo in 2005 according to a report in today's Motorsport News.

The 30 year-old Yorkshireman, who currently sits just three points behind his factory Vauxhall teammate Yvan Muller in this years BTCC title chase is on the verge of joining the factory Alfa Autodelta team for the revived WTCC after a selection of successful European Touring Car Championship outings for the team in recent seasons.

The 30 year-old Yorkshireman, who currently sits just three points behind his factory Vauxhall teammate Yvan Muller in this years BTCC title chase is on the verge of joining the factory Alfa Autodelta team for the revived WTCC after a selection of successful European Touring Car Championship outings for the team in recent seasons.

"I have really enjoyed my time racing the Alfa and racing abroad is always a very exciting prospect," he told MN. "For the moment I am just concentrating on winning this year's BTCC."

Thompson's most recent outing with Alfa Romeo came in June at Donington Park where the 2002 BTCC Champ scored a win and a third place finish.
