An Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team spokesperson said: “A bag belonging to Sebastian Vettel was stolen in Barcelona this morning.

"He tried to find it by using his iPhone to track his earphones which were in his bag; but when he located his earphones he found them abandoned and was therefore unable to locate his stolen bag.”

The German was reportedly driving an Aston Martin road car and, when he briefly got out, he was robbed.

Incredibly, Vettel then went in pursuit of his assailants.

On an electric scooter, according to Catalan newspaper El Periodoco, Vettel followed the GPS to find his abandoned earphones.

It is reported that other documents remain stolen.

This is the second time this season that a scooter has been at the heart of trouble for Vettel.

During practice for the Australian Grand Prix last month, with smoke pouring from his Aston Martin, Vettel hitched a ride back to the garage on a scooter belonging to the marshals.

He was fined $5,000 for being in violation of Article 26.7 of the Sporting Regulations.
