Hamilton on top again as rain strikes

Lewis Hamilton was once again the quickest driver at the Hungaroring after a rain affected second free practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The McLaren ace posted a best time of 1min 21.995secs in the first half of the session, setting his quickest lap just before the arrival of a heavy rain shower that would ensure his time remained unbeaten through the rest of the session.

Hamilton would end up a tenth of a second clear of the Lotus of Kimi Raikkonen, while Bruno Senna was an encouraging third fastest for Williams, despite missing FP1 after handing his car over to test driver Valtteri Bottas.

Felipe Massa outpaced Ferrari team-mate Fernando Alonso as the pair finished up four and fifth, with Jenson Button, Paul di Resta and Sebastian Vettel rounding out the top eight.

Behind them, Romain Grosjean and Michael Schumacher completed the top ten, although it was a session that saw both run into problems. Grosjean went off in the early stages and nudged the tyres with the front of his car, taking the front wing off his car but avoiding any serious damage as he was able to resume after pitting for a replacement and a check for further damage.

Schumacher however did more damage to his Mercedes when he crashed out for the second Friday in a row, being caught out by the conditions when he ventured onto the circuit after the rain had fallen. Running on intermediate tyres, he locked up into turn eleven and was powerless to prevent his car going into the barriers - damaging the front end and putting him out of the remainder of the session.

A number of other drivers ran off-track while exploring the levels of grip after the rain, but all avoided following Schumacher into the tyre barriers.
