F1 stars donate race suits to charity
A number of leading F1 starts have donated race suits to the spinal cord injury charity Wings for Life, which will go up for sale at the Bonham Automobilia Auction on 3 December.
Race suits signed and worn by the six world champions on the 2012 circuit - Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen - will be showcased and auctioned to motoring fans, with each race suit being complimented by other donations from the six drivers, including pairs of signed race gloves and signed photographic prints.
All money raised will be donated to Wings for Life to raise money for research into a cure for spinal cord injury.
"It's been one of the most competitive seasons for Formula One drivers but we're all willing to come together to support a great cause which means something to everyone involved with motorsports," Vettel said. "I'm proud to have donated my race suit and gloves worn during the first race of this season in Melbourne."
Nikki Wilson, Head of Wings for Life UK, said she was delighted by the generosity of the six drivers.
"We're hugely grateful to Red Bull Racing, Mercedes, McLaren, Ferrari and Lotus F1 for supporting this signature Wings for Life event," she said. "This is a dream come true for collectors - a chance to buy a full set race suits from the world's best F1 drivers. We are confident that these amazing pieces will contribute to another successful year of fundraising for Wings for Life."
