Bat Closes In On Tyrrell.

According to reports in the British Guardian newspaper this morning, one of the largest tobacco companies in the world is set to buy it's own Formula One racing team.

British American Tobacco (BAT) is in the final stages of a ?300 Million move for the Tyrrell Grand Prix team owned by Ken Tyrrell and the Tyrrell family.

British American Tobacco (BAT) is in the final stages of a ?300 Million move for the Tyrrell Grand Prix team owned by Ken Tyrrell and the Tyrrell family.

The five year deal would guarantee a worldwide platform for it's Lucky Strike and State Express 555 brands, as it is thought the team would change livery from one event to another depending on which of their brands they wanted to promote in that particular country.

The prime movers in the deal are thought to be Tom Moser of British American Tobacco, Craig Pollock, Jacques Villeneuve's manager and Jacques Villeneuve himself, they all formed a close relationship while Moser was at Players, the Canadian's Indycar sponsor he took to the 1995 Indycar title.

It is also reported that Villeneuve has already signed a deal to drive for the BAT Superteam for the 1999 Formula One season, but this is total speculation at this time
