Jordan Confident Of Bridgestone Switch

The Jordan team emerged from the Bridgestone tyre test confident that it had a base to work from for next season.

The Silverstone team ran Damon Hill and new signing Heinz-Harald Frentzen at Suzuka on the first day of the test, although the German's day was inconclusive as he spent much of the time acclimatising to his new car. Hill, however, put in 51 laps, and felt that the team would have little trouble in moving over from Goodyear.

(The car and the new tyres felt good,) Hill reported, (and we have a good base to work on. I do not think it should be too difficult for us to adapt to the new tyres.)

The Englishman left Japan tonight, flying home to be re-united with his family in Dublin. Frentzen, however, inherited Hill's used tyres to put in a few exploratory laps at the end of a day dominated by the need to get him seated properly in the 198 chassis. Following Hill's departure, the German will receive the team's full attention on Wednesday, and hopes to move up the timesheets.

(It's too early to make any comments about the car or tyres,) Frentzen explained, (Tomorrow will be the real test. What I can say, however, is that I need to be more tanned to wear yellow overalls!)
