Another Schumacher, Another Rivalry

Ralf Schumacher has admitted to deliberately blocking fellow countryman Heinz-Harald Frentzen during qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix, claiming that it was a purely retaliatory move.


The former Jordan pilot - who has now swapped places with Frentzen by moving to the Williams team - claimed that his brother's former sportscar partner had made it difficult for him on his first run at Suzuka on Saturday, leading to his returning the compliment later in the session.

Frentzen was particularly disappointed, believing that his spoiled lap would have been good enough to knock Eddie Irvine out of fourth position. Frentzen has never had a particularly healthy relationship with Ralf's brother Michael, culminating in the Ferrari pilot marrying Frentzen's former girlfriend Corinna. Now it seems national rivalry, and Schumacher desire to outperform Frentzen following their switch of teams could lead to another rivalry that F1 could do without.
