The German used the build-up to his grand prix at Hockenheim this weekend to confirm speculation that he would stay with the team that has been his home for the past season and a half, and the announcement comes hot on the heels of Jordan's agreement to use works Honda engines from next season.

Frentzen had been strongly linked to Jaguar, following the Ford-backed team's entry to Formula One this year, but has now turned his back on what could have been a lucrative contract. Jaguar wanted the German to act as a flag-bearer for the marque in his homeland in the face of stiff competition from rivals BMW and Mercedes.

''I can now say that I will be driving for Jordan for the next two years, and also for Honda, which will supply us with a new works engine from 2001,'' Reuters quotes Frentzen as saying today.''

His decision eases the way for Dario Franchitti to possibly swap the American CART series for F1 with Jaguar next season.
