Mark Webber has been confirmed at the wheel of the revised Jaguar-Cosworth R5b-06 at this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix, as the team seeks a high point on which to end its involvement with the top flight.

Rookie team-mate Christian Klien gave the car its competition debut at last weekend's inaugural Chinese Grand Prix, but team bosses at the soon to be defunct outfit have decided to let Webber race it at a circuit he knows better than either of his co-drivers. With the team up for sale following Ford announcing its decision to pull out of Formula One before the Chinese race, the car will have just two more races to impress and reward the hard work still going on behind the scenes in Milton Keynes.

The R5b-06 is almost identical to its predecessor when viewed with the untrained eye, but features a lighter basic weight, allowing more tactical placement of ballast, and has a lower centre of gravity. Klien ran solidly with the car in Shanghai, before being taken out by an impatient Michael Schumacher as the German charged through the field after starting from the pit-lane.

"We took the decision to have Christian race the R5b-06 in China and now it's Mark's turn," MD David Pitchforth commented, "The team has been fine-tuning the car over the past month or so and we are really prepared going into these last two races."
