Albers remains grateful to DTM.

Formula One rookie Christijan Albers has shown that, when his machinery allows, he can finish grands prix, but it is his starts that have most caught the attention - something that he attributes to his previous career as a tin-top racer.

"I enjoy the starts, something which I practiced a lot in DTM," the Minardi man said after returning from his third race of the year, "In Bahrain, I passed three cars at the start. This is motivating. I am learning a lot and it is going better and better.

"I am still very grateful for everything I learned in DTM. I must say that the HWA/Mercedes team was very professional - they could easily run an F1 team.

The Dutchman has also shown, particularly with finishes in both Malaysia and Bahrain, that he is fit enough for Formula One - something that new team-mate Patrick Friesacher doubted of himself pre-season - and should have no trouble racing in the cooler temperatures of Europe from round four.

"Even though I have shown my fitness, over the next few weeks I will spend almost all my time training with Armand. Although I am really fit, we want to improve fitness."

Albers should also be able to tackle the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola with the new Minardi PS05, which has remained under development - and under wraps - since the start of the season. The team is hoping to test the car towards the end of next week.

"I am really looking forward to the race at Imola, because the new very aggressive looking new Minardi will have been launched by then," he admitted, "Hopefully, this car will make it possible for me to show the team, my fans and sponsors some impressive results.

"The first three races were exciting and, for me, a huge experience. Although Patrick and I had to drive the old Minardi, we learned a lot and I am happy that we both finished in two races. We are a good team and keep pushing each other - at the last race, qualifying went quite well, and we were only 0.5secs behind the Jordans. Minardi is the best place to start your F1 career - you can learn a lot and the team are very friendly and professional - Paul Stoddart is a fantastic motivator. I feel very comfortable in F1 and cannot wait for the next race."
