Haas draws line through unrepresentative Monaco performance

Haas is eager to move on from its disappointment at the Monaco Grand Prix having been anchored to the back of the Formula 1 field struggling for performance at the street circuit.

The US team had braced for a difficult round in Monaco with the slow-speed, maximum downforce circuit not suiting its VF-18’s strengths while Romain Grosjean was also set to serve a three-place grid penalty for his first lap Spanish Grand Prix crash. The team's performance issues were compounded by being forced to take off some aerodynamic parts on the car due breaks caused by design and manufacturing flaws.

With Grosjean starting the race in 18th, one spot ahead of teammate Kevin Magnussen with only Red Bull’s Max Verstappen behind the Haas pair, both drivers made progress up the order but with limited overtaking opportunities points remained out of reach.

With Magnussen coming home in 13th and Grosjean 15th, the team is keen to focus on a fightback next time out in Canada.

“The car that we had this weekend is not representative of what we should have,” Magnussen said. “I’m just glad we’re out of here and I can’t wait to go to Montreal and get back into the fight. Everyone on the team deserves that. We’re moving on.

“We’re all looking forward to Canada and to putting some new parts on the car, getting back into our normal shape, and getting back in the fight for points.”

“It was a tough race. We struggled and didn’t have much pace,” Grosjean echoed. “Unfortunately, with no crazy thing in the race, we were always going to be in a difficult position. I think we should have a good car in Canada.”
