Lando Norris has offered to take Captain Tom Moore on a tour around McLaren’s Formula 1 headquarters following the 99-year-old’s fundraising effort for the NHS.

World War veteran Moore has raised over £27.5million for NHS Charities in the fight against coronavirus by completing 100 laps of his garden ahead of his 100th birthday later this month.

Moore, a long-time motorsport and F1 fan, smashed his original target of just £1,000 after nearly one million people donated to his fundraising page.

McLaren driver Norris arranged a video call with Moore over the weekend and invited him to visit the team’s Woking base once the UK’s lockdown measures have been lifted.

“I want to say a big congratulations for what you’ve achieved,” Norris told Moore.

“I’m sure you’ve been told many times but from my side and everyone at McLaren we want to say a big congratulations for what you’ve done.

“It’s my honour that I get to speak to people like you, Captain Tom. You’ve achieved things that very few people manage to achieve ever in their lifetime, especially at 99 years old and coming on to 100 – that’s another big achievement.

“We would love to invite you, eventually, whenever you want to McLaren for a little tour – or a big tour – whatever you want, of our whole facility.”

More replied: “Nothing would give me more pleasure than that. That would be phenomenal for me to come round McLaren because I’ve been a McLaren fan for a very long time and I am still am.”

Earlier this week, Moore topped off a record-breaking week by going to Number 1 in the UK charts with a cover of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ with singer Michael Ball.
