Andy Meyrick's driver coach Martin O'Connell is to race in the latest rounds of the British F3 International Series this weekend at Brands Hatch after the National Class points leader was forced out of the race weekend.

Carlin ace Meyrick was forced to miss the event after falling ill following the team's most recent test session at Pembrey, with the MSA Race Elite driver being admitted to hospital to undergo a series of tests.

As a result, O'Connell - who last drove an F3 car back in 2001 - will step into the #56 Dallara for the weekend and quickly got up to speed as he posted the second quickest time amongst the National Class runners during Friday testing.

"Andy will be missed by the team, but it goes without saying that his health is the most important thing at this time," team boss Trevor Carlin said. "The entire team join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.

"In Andy's absence Martin has adapted very quickly into our F3 car, and the team will be working very hard to make this weekend as easy as possible for him."
