Unfortunately we didn't have time to try things, but we seemed to come to terms with the track, and for qualifying, the car was handling great. We just put in a new engine, and it was a matter of making the right choices from the data we've collected rather than actual time on the track. Sharp pencils are what's getting it faster right now."

ARIE LUYENDYK JR. (No. 5 Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "I think the track was pretty much the same. I think it was just a matter of the heat, but I don't know, I was flat out all the way around the track, and the car feels really free. I don't know if we have some sort of engine issues because certain people seem to be running a lot quicker in a straight line. I don't know what we can do to reduce drag in the car. We've tried everything. So we'll just have to go back, put our heads together and try to figure something out. The team is doing great. I can't work with a better bunch of guys. My sponsors are doing great - Provimi, Parsons, Momo - they've all come through for me. I was a little disappointed with qualifying, but we'll get them in the race."

JASON PRIESTLEY (No. 7 HomeMed Pharmacy Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "It's real good. My HomeMed crew worked really hard this afternoon. We lost an engine yesterday, and they really thrashed this morning getting the car together. My hats off to my boys. They worked really hard. The car's working great, and we've got a really good car for tomorrow."

How's your relationship with driving coach Tony Renna?: "Tony Renna is a phenomenal driver. He's got a lot of experience in these cars. Being a road-course racer, I've got a lot to learn, and Tony's been fantastic. He's helping me get up to speed quickly."

Anything surprise you about this track?: "No, not really. We tested at Chicago, and Chicago is pretty much the same layout. It's remarkably smooth. It's a beautiful, smooth track, and there's a lot of room for these little cars, so we should have an exciting race."

MIKE KOSS (No. 37 Bowes Seal Fast Automotive Products Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "I wish it had gone better. I hope I do better tomorrow."

MATTHEW HALLIDAY (No. 38 Bowes Seal Fast/Hoosier Wholesale Automotive Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "We've been struggling for speed all weekend, so it's not really what we were looking for. We race a little better, so we're working on our race set-up right now, so we'll see where we are. The car didn't feel bad. We're just struggling for horsepower or something we're lacking. We're just not there yet. We're just working on getting it better for the race."

AARON FIKE (No. 91 Hemelgarn Racing Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "First time in a rear-engine or winged car, so I didn't know what to expect. We were fast in practice all week. We expected at least one to be faster than us, but the other was a bit of a surprise. We're going to run in the top three tomorrow if everything holds together."

CORY WITHERILL (No. 92 WSA Healthcare Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "It's all right. I didn't want to go out there right after the trucks. I haven't had much time in the car. I had about eight laps earlier, so it was a matter of getting the right set-up on it."

How did the car feel out there?: "It felt all right. Like I said earlier, we just need more laps. We missed all day yesterday because of missing parts and then went out this morning for the last 10 minutes. It's only my second time in the car."

Are you worried about your qualifying spot?: "Not really. At this track it's not where you start. Once we get the car dialled in in our next session and get flat out, we can go racing."

G.J. MENNEN (No. 99 Greased Lightning Automotive Cleaning Products Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "It's not my first time in an open-wheel car, but I haven't been in one for a long time. It's been good. We've been working on some things. It's a lot different driving an open-wheel car versus driving a big stock car. The team's working hard, and we're trying to get the Greased Lightning car going faster."

GARY PETERSON (No. 27 Automatic Fire Sprinklers, Inc. Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "The track felt great. We made a gear change and went too short on gear. As you probably heard, when I got in the corner, I hit the rev limiter, and that messed us up. The car is good for tomorrow. I'd like to be on the podium, and I think we have a good shot at it."

ED CARPENTER (No. 2 Menards/Jack K. Elrod Co./Futaba/Delphi Dallara/Infiniti/ Firestone): "I'm somewhat happy with qualifying. I thought we'd go faster than that, but the track heated up, and I think that hurt us a little. The Menards Dallara felt great, though, better than it has all weekend. I think we'll be good for the race, actually. I'm just looking forward to getting the race underway and seeing how it all goes. But I do feel like we'll be right there."

On pulling double duty, Carpenter drove in a USAC Sprint Car event Friday night at Winchester, Ind.: "Last night ended a little earlier than we wanted it to at Winchester. We had a great car, probably the best car I've ever had there in my sprint car career. But something happened in the heat race, just a racing deal that took us out, and we didn't make it to the feature. I'm still glad I went. It's my favourite place to race in sprint cars. Now, though, I'm here in Kansas City, and I'm focused on the Infiniti Pro race. Hopefully we can make up for last night with a good run tomorrow."

RONNIE JOHNCOX (No. 8 Rev. 1 Racing Special Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "I feel real good about it. The fact that we just started this team three weeks ago and just unloaded the car onto the racetrack today speaks volumes for Rev. 1 Racing and all the people on the team. The guys that we have working on this car, I trust them completely, and I knew they would put a good piece under me. It's just a matter of getting out there and driving it."

How does it feel to be up front?: "It feels really good, but it really boils down to all our team. We have a group of guys that have just worked extremely hard, had many sleepless nights. They made a commitment to come here with a racecar that we would go out and just shake down. We didn't even intend on racing. We said if we get out there and the car feels good and things are looking pretty good, we'll go to the next practice session, which happened to be this morning. That went OK, so we said, 'Let's try to qualify it'. Now that we're on the front row, I guess we're
going to race."

You've run in the IRL before. Are you eager to get back in an IRL car?: "That's exactly what my focus has been, to race in the IRL and the Indy 500. The Infiniti Pro Series was just started this year, and we looked at it as a great opportunity to stay in an Indy-style race car and compete at the same tracks that the IRL cars are competing at and use the series not only for additional driver development but also use it for a platform to initiate new sponsors and get them involved in auto racing at a little bit more affordable level, and then take them to the IRL."

About Jason Priestley qualifying third: "I know that he has a lot of racing experience in other series. Just because he's an actor doesn't mean he can't be a good race car driver. I think that they obviously came here prepared. He's with a good team, and it really doesn't surprise me."

A.J. FOYT IV (No. 14 Harrah's/A.J. Foyt Racing Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "I tried to get in it as fast as I could on the warm-up lap, and the car was perfect. You had to have it as freed up as possible because they don't have a lot of horsepower, so to go fast, it has to run free."

You did not test before you came to Kansas, but you're obviously adapting well to these cars: "I drove in the Formula Continental series, the local series around my house, that helped a little bit. I did some IRL testing in Phoenix with the Indy car, so that also helped prior to this race. They're kind of similar, other than horsepower."

With a name like A.J. Foyt, do people expect you to win?: "I think some people look at it that way. I just try to go out there and do my best, the best I can do. I know people look at it like I'm supposed to win, and they make a big deal out of it if you don't, but I just go out there and try to do the best I can."

How are these cars in traffic?: "I haven't really been drafting. We've just been really concentrating on qualifying. I drafted a little bit and everything went good. I couldn't tell any real big problem."

About Jason Priestley qualifying third: "He's been practicing just like us out there, and he's been running competitive speeds. They found a little bit for qualifying. I think it's good that he's out there."

A.J. FOYT (Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner and owner, No. 14 Harrah's/A.J. Foyt Racing Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): About his grandson A.J. Foyt IV winning the pole: "He'll be hard to live with now. He did a good job considering everything. We came here with a brand-new car. He had no testing and no experience on a track this size, and the car performed well, so I'm happy for him. He's working well with Jack Starne, who was my chief mechanic for many years. I'm proud of him."
