Moses Smith enters Gateway to IPS.

Currently contending for the points lead in the Star Mazda North American Championship, aspiring US single-seater racer Moses Smith has found enough time and funds to explore his options in the Infiniti Pro Series this weekend.

The venue for Smith's planned debut will be the 1.25mile Gateway International Raceway, just outside St Louis, where the IPS series supports the Indy Racing League's Emerson Indy 250. The Infiniti Pro Series is the feeder championship to the IRL, and is providing some exciting racing in its own right.

Smith will be competing with the Kenn Hardley Racing Team, which has run fellow American Paul Dana to eleventh in points through the opening races of the year.

"I am very excited to be racing with such a diverse and experienced team." Smith explained, "The team is managed by former Indy car driver John Paul Jr, and has one of the more experienced chassis engineers of the Infiniti Pro Series in Dave Conti. I have a lot of confidence in the team and its ability to do well."

The schedule for the weekend will be very tight. Smith will be entering the race with no previous testing in an IPS Dallara, and the Gateway meeting will only provide him and the team with two practice sessions before qualifying.

"I have a new car and a new track to learn in two sessions, so you can bet I will be listening to any - and all - advice that the team will be giving me," Smith commented, "My intentions for the weekend are, first, to go out and learn the track and car; second, to finish the race; and, third, to do well. Kenn is really going out on a limb to give me this opportunity, and I want to make the best of it."
