Moto2: Victorious Vinales in control for home win

The Moto2 Aragon Grand Prix was dominated by Maverick Vinales, the Kalex rider securing his second win of the season by 1.285s as championship leader Tito Rabat failed in his bid to reel in his fellow countryman.

The Paginas Amarillas HP 40 man lead from flag to flag, converting his first pole start to an impressive win on the only Spanish track in the championship season where the rookie had not won previously after easing away and controlling a gap back to a fierce battle for the remaining podium places.

Marc VDS rider Rabat's efforts to catch the runaway Vinales pulled him into a clear second, adding precious championship points to his tally, now sitting 33 points clear of team-mate Mika Kallio in the standings.

The battle for third raged on in the closing laps between Suter riders Johann Zarco and Tom Luthi as the pair frantically swapped position. The Air Asia Caterham man eventually came out on top for the final podium position, Zarco scoring back-to-back podium finishes in the process.

Interwetten's Luthi settled for fourth, having also spent much of the race in a fight for position with Kallio, only just clear of a competitive performance by Franco Morbidelli which pushed him up to fifth, a new best finish for the Italtrans rookie.

Dominique Aegerter also won his tussle with Kallio to push his Technomag carXpert bike into sixth, with the battle worn Marc VDS rider down in seventh - the last of the riders once part of the battle for podium position in the opening laps.

There was an eleven second gap until Jordi Torres crossed the line for eighth, equalling the Aspar riders best result of the year. The Spaniard was followed across the line by Speed Up's Sam Lowes, who was glad of a top ten finish after a difficult time in ninth.

Tech 3's Marcel Schrotter completed the top ten.

Hafizh Syahrin found himself back in the points for Petronas Raceline Malaysia in eleventh, ahead of Dynavolt Intact GP rider Sandro Cortese in twelfth.

Luis Salom secured 13th for Paginas Amarillas HP 40, finishing just ahead of a big battle for the final points, won by Ricky Cardus for Tech 3, holding off a charge from Taka Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) who took the final point on offer.

Gino Rea improved greatly on his qualifying position to pick up seven places in the race to cross the line a hard earned 17th for AGT REA Racing.

Jonas Folger's woes continued as the German was awarded a jump start penalty, leaving the AGR man out of contention for the points once again.

Moto2 saw less crashes as the drying line increases with Ant Wet the first faller, The QMMF rider was swiftly followed into the pits by Xavier Simeon, retiring his Frederal Oil Gresini.

AGR's tough day continued as Axel Pons also failed to go the distance without a fall.
