Andrea Ballerini had a superb race at Mugello last weekend finishing in tenth place, just 2.255 seconds behind race winner Poggiali.
Ballerini made a good start from 10th on the grid, ending the first lap in this position, well in touch with the leaders. As the race progressed Ballerini moved places frequently posting his best lap and the 9th quickest in the race early on lap 4. Staying with the group of leaders the race became very exciting with 7 different lead changes throughout. By mid way distance, Ballerini had found his rhythm and comfortable before making a charge which saw him as high as 6th position on lap 14. However behind him Bianco crashed out, hitting the rear wheel of Ballerini and making him sit up, forcing him to steady himself. This lost him valuable time - he was over taken by two riders and lost his grip on the front group.
He worked hard to catch the group back up and he did so but could not manage to move back in front as he had bought other riders with him and had to fight them off to the finish.
Overall, an excellent race and a move in the right direction. It was the team's first top 10 finish of the season, increasing their points tally to 9 and giving a Championship position of 21st overall.
The team will continue their work to progress further up the leader board and arrive at Catalunya ready to improve.
