Podium finishers to uncork Freixenet in 2003.

The 2003 MotoGP season will see the top three finishers celebrating on the podium in time honoured fashion, and this year they will be uncorking bottles of Freixenet, after the Spanish producers of sparkling wines and cavas agreed a deal to supply the 'Official MotoGP Cava'.

The agreement between Freixenet and Dorna Sports, who hold the commercial and television rights to the MotoGP World Championship, was signed today [Saturday] at the Circuit de Catalunya during the official MotoGP Winter Test.

"When the chance to sponsor such an interesting and exciting championship as MotoGP came up, we had no doubt it was for us," said Freixenet Communication and Publicity Director Pedro Bonet. "This is a new adventure for Freixenet and we are thrilled. We just can't wait for the races to start... and for us to be there."

In the past, Freixenet have been involved in sport events such as the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992, golf, cycling, tennis and sailing, while its products are available in 170 countries around the world.

For their new participation in MotoGP, Freixenet have chosen "Cordon Negro" to be presented to the top three finishers on the Grand Prix podiums.

"For a World Championship such as MotoGP it is always interesting to welcome companies and brands with international interests and a presence in numerous countries, such is the case with Freixenet," commented Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta. "I hope this new relationship with Dorna extends for many years and the riders enjoy celebrating their victories with Freixenet cava."

The agreement between Dorna and Freixenet for MotoGP also includes the Motocross World Championship and the Spanish Championship (CEV).
