In an effort to regain their place on the MotoGP grid, the Harris WCM team has announced they have begun work on the latest version of their engine, with the new castings now complete (pictured) and ready for machining.

The FIM prevented the team from competing at the Africa's GP for two reasons:

"1) The Harris WCM motorcycle does not have an engine of its own original design, because the engine concept, layout and main parts are Yamaha.

"2) The Harris WCM motorcycle is using major engine castings derived from the Yamaha R1 model, which is a well known industrial product, sold in several thousand units."

Both points were contested by WCM Director of Racing Peter Clifford.

Clifford stated that the WCM engine is as original as any other on the grid, while point two was challenged because of the vagueness of the phrase 'Industrial Production'.

Nevertheless, WCM's latest engine modifications, which includes a 'Cassette Gearbox' to allow the internal ratios to be changed without splitting the engine, will surely help their efforts to be back on the grid in time for round three, the Spanish GP, on May 11.
