An incredibly windy session was red flagged with 4 of the 20-minutes remaining after Rizla Suzuki's Chris Vermeulen suffered a massive engine failure, leaving oil along the main straight and into turn one. Team-mate John Hopkins ran harmlessly into the gravel before the session was stopped, track cleaned (taking around 30-minutes) and the warm-up restarted.

Team-mate John Hopkins ran harmlessly into the gravel before the session was stopped, track cleaned (taking around 30-minutes) and the warm-up restarted.

The final four minutes then passed without major incident, although Nicky Hayden and Marco Melandri did make unintentional contact, probably due to a gust of wind, into turn one.
