Alex de Angelis has secured pole position at his home MotoE round for the double-header at Misano as main title contenders Niki Tuuli and Mike Di Meglio both crash during their Superpole laps.

The Octo Pramac rider completed his sole flying lap of 1m 44.660s mid-way through the session, with running order dictated by practice times, and the San Marino rider’s time withstood his rivals’ efforts to give de Angelis pole position for both races this weekend at Misano.

It marks the 35-year-old’s first pole position in any class since the 2011 Australian Moto2 race.

Matteo Ferrari, who topped practice at Misano, failed to better de Angelis with the final lap of qualifying but slotted into second place for Gresini with Xavier Simoen completing the front row Avintia.

MotoE points leader Di Meglio endured a nightmare Superpole as he high-sided off on his flying lap meaning he will start from the back of the grid for the double-header at Misano.

He will be joined at the back of the grid by Sachsenring MotoE race-winner Niki Tuuli who also crashed on his flying lap for Ajo.

The back of the grid is completed by both Eric Granado (Avintia) and Sete Gibernau (Pons) who had their lap times cancelled for exceeding track limits.
