Maverick Vinales has grabbed top spot in the wet warm-up session ahead of the Aragon MotoGP for Monster Yamaha with LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow surging up to second place.

Following heavy rain overnight, a wet MotorLand Aragon circuit greeted the MotoGP riders but with strong sunshine overhead the 20-minute session dried out as it progressed.

With today’s race forecast to be run in dry conditions, many riders opted to be conservative in the wet.

Vinales, who starts the Aragon MotoGP from the front row, grabbed top spot with a 1m 59.111s on the factory Yamaha ahead of Crutchlow on the LCR Honda.

MotoGP rookie Joan Mir impressed in the indifferent conditions by taking third place for Suzuki ahead of fellow newbie Francesco Bagnaia on the Pramac Ducati.

Valentino Rossi rounded out the top five on the factory Yamaha ahead of sole Red Bull KTM rider Mika Kallio following the confirmation his team-mate Pol Espargaro has been ruled out of action with a left wrist fracture sustained in a crash in FP4.

Alex Rins ended warm-up in seventh place for Suzuki ahead of Aprilia wildcard Bradley Smith as Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha) and Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda) completed the top 10.

With Jorge Lorenzo still off the pace for Repsol Honda in 11th, Miguel Oliveira grabbed 12th place for Tech3 KTM in front of factory Ducati’s Danilo Petrucci and the Pramac Ducati of Jack Miller.

Hafizh Syahrin (Tech 3 KTM), Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati), Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha) and Andrea Iannone (Aprilia) were the only other riders to set lap times as the rest, including Marc Marquez, opted to sit out warm-up in the wet conditions.
