Jorge Lorenzo snatches pole position after an unexpected challenge from team-mate Valentino Rossi.
Qualifying was delayed due to a big accident for Alex de Angelis in final practice. The Ioda rider was airlifted to hospital for further treatment and is described as 'conscious'.
Reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez recently underwent surgery on a fracture to his left hand, sustained in a mountain bike accident, while 2015 title contender Jorge Lorenzo sprained his left shoulder in a minibike accident last weekend.
