Race winner and ex-WSS bike for TT Zero

An Isle of Man TT winner on a former World Supersport bike is the latest entry into the new-look clean emissions event planned for the 2010 TT.

The latest team to confirm its entry into the TT Zero event at the 2010 TT will field a TT race winner on an ex-World Supersport machine.

The Swedish Electric Racing Team (SERT) has confirmed it will be taking part in the TT Zero race for clean emissions electric motorcycles which forms part of the 2010 Isle of Man TT.

TT veteran Chris Palmer will be the team?? 1/2 s rider, and SERT has bought Anthony West?? 1/2 s Honda CBR600RR from the now defunct Stiggy Racing WSB team for the event. The team is now in the process of modifying it to incorporate an electric system.

SERT has been formed and is led by Lars ?? 1/2 Lasse?? 1/2 Nilsson, a former motocross and road racing competitor. He has also been a mechanic in Endurance VM and STCC competitions.

The team has also brought popular former Manx Grand Prix and TT racer Mats Nilsson on board as the team TT liaison officer. The rest of the team includes Per ?? 1/2 Backis?? 1/2 Backstrom (technical responsibility and chassis), Christoffer Alwen (Mechanical design and testing) and Project Manager Peter Rosenquist.

Rider Palmer, 47, has a very credible record at the TT, with three wins and four podiums since his debut in 1990, enjoying particular success in the lightweight (250cc) and Ultra-lightweight (125cc) classes.

Lars Nilsson said:

?? 1/2 We bought the Honda CBR 600RR because the frame design is well suited to convert to an electric system and since the new parts are about the same weight and placement we expect the handling to be very similar to the original bike.?? 1/2

?? 1/2 We are all really thrilled to be participating in the world?? 1/2 s greatest motorcycle race although we have a lot of work between now and June to get the bike ready. The TT is the ultimate challenge for an electric motorcycle and we are looking forward to the task.?? 1/2

Isle of Man Tourism and Leisure Minister Martyn Quayle added:

?? 1/2 We are delighted to welcome our first Scandinavian team to TT Zero and are really looking forward to seeing them put their technology to the test around the Mountain Course.?? 1/2
