Double Isle of Man TT winner Gary Johnson will ride a Triumph in the Supersport class at this year's Mountain Course festival after announcing a deal with Team T3 Racing.

The Lincolnshire rider will contest both Monster Energy Supersport races in June for the British Supersport Cup champions as he aims to add to his two wins in the class, achieved in 2011 and 2014.

"I'm really excited about this new venture and getting involved with a new team, particularly one with T3's experience," said Johnson, who achieved his second TT win on a Triumph in 2014.

"It's great to be back on a Triumph 675 as I have a wealth of knowledge on the bike and I hope to replicate the success of 2014 this year. I'm eager to get going as we have a busy testing schedule ahead to be fully prepared for first practice in June."

Team T3 Racing principal Andy Jenkinson said he believed Johnson's TT pedigree would put the team in a strong position to challenge for a maiden win at the legendary event this year.

"We are thrilled that Gary is riding our bike this year. With over 15 years of racing experience with Aston Martin as a champion racing driver I have worked with the A1 GP, BTCC, British GT and Heritage as promoters and sponsors," he said.

"I understand the challenges in putting together a winning team and I believe Gary and Tony [Scott, managing director, T3 Racing] are crucial to our success. As proven race winners, they are capable of putting us in a strong position to challenge for the win."

Last year, Johnson finished third and fifth in the Supersport TT races on a Yamaha R6 for Northern Ireland team Mar-Train Racing.
