Confusion at AGM.

There was confusion over the future of JAG Tigers following the opening day of the British Speedway Promoters' Association AGM in Tenerife on Monday (Nov 17). The Trelawny promotion rejected a report on the official BSPA website stating that the JAG Tigers would miss out next season after applying to put their licence on ice in the hope of returning to the Premier League in 2005.

The Trelawny promotion rejected a report on the official BSPA website stating that the JAG Tigers would miss out next season after applying to put their licence on ice in the hope of returning to the Premier League in 2005.

Promoter Ray Purvis is representing the Tigers in Tenerife and a Trelawny spokesman said: "Although we are not yet in a position to declare that we can run in 2004, we are seeking a time extension in the hope of having a new venue available by the New Year. This is a similar situation to the extension that was granted to Somerset last year. Our understanding is that the promoters are due to discuss this application on Tuesday afternoon."

Something a little more definite did emerge and that is the news that Chris Van Straaten will head the same British Speedway management committee in 2004. The chairman and Wolverhampton promoter is joined once again by Peter Toogood as vice-chairman alongside Coventry's vastly experienced Colin Pratt, Neil Machin of Sheffield and Eastbourne's Jon Cook. Van Straaten said: "This does show that there is some stability within the sport and we are once again looking forward to working together next season."
