Speedway promoter Ray Purvis has unveiled plans to revive the sport at a venue close to the former home of the St Austell Gulls at Par Moor. Purvis, promoter of the Trelawny Tigers until they lost their track at the Clay Country Moto Parc last year, is making a planning application for a site provided by Derek Bishop at the Par Moor Motor Museum.

The proposed site is situated near the old circuit which was run by Trevor Redmond between 1958 and 1963.
The hope is that approval to stage speedway at the new track could be received in time for Cornwall to have a team in the Premier League in 2005.

"It is great to think that Mr Bishop has offered us the opportunity to bring speedway back to its original home in Cornwall," said Purvis.

"This would be the best possible place to stage the sport and it would prove to be nostalgic for supporters."
Purvis says he has already received a positive reaction from the local council and is optimistic of the prospects for next season."

"We have already started work on the track with the assistance of Nigel Prynne, who was responsible for the excellent circuit at the Clay Country Moto Parc," said Purvis.

"Work is taking place on banking at the moment and we plan to have a bulldozer to level the rest of the track during the next week.
There is a car park available for 350 cars and parking for 12 coaches."

Purvis says he hopes to arrange for the public to have the opportunity of looking at the site within the next fortnight
